Overview
Bande Nere is a small area big on diversity!
5 km west of the city centre is where you’ll find this popular and multi-cultural district.
What sets Bande Nere apart from the rest of Milan’s outer shell?
Well…
Firstly, it’s a little bit of a food paradise. More diversity means more cuisine!
Better still, Bande Nere just happens to be slap bang in the middle of some other funky places.
San Siro, Navigli, Washington and Milan city centre are all close by. So if you get bored any time, Bande Nere has some great neighbours!
In short, this is an area of simple pleasures and good people. We approve.
What can I do here?
If you love food, you’re in luck.
In Bande Nere, international cuisine is the order of the day.
Go to the Japanese restaurant Shokugi Tei first. Eat sushi to your heart’s content and split the bill with some friends and family.
You will also find quite a few Kosher supermarkets and restaurants in Bande Nere. Try Re Salomone for some traditional Jewish fare.
And to round out the top 3, we’ve gotta go for Il Luogo de Aimo e Nadia. You’ll leave with empty pockets and one of the best full stomachs of your life.
But if you don’t like food, you’ve gotta love yarn right? Yep. Yarn.
Center Della Lana is an amazing embroidery shop with more yarn than you can shake a cross-stitch needle at!
And after you’re all yarned out, it’s time to find a party.
Most people will point you towards Navigli and Washington for the night life. And that’s good, because they’re just down the road...
Flag fact:
"Bande Nere" means “Black Band”, named after a fearsome mercenary horde.
The Black Bands carried black flags and shot muskets from horseback in the Italian Wars and didn’t care whose side they fought on... as long as they were paid.
