Universidad
Because I want Madrid’s past, present, and future.

You’ll love this...
A night to remember (or not). Botellón in Malasaña plazas. Dance till the sun comes up.

Spotahome does not endorse the practice of drinking in the street (Botellón*). Fun as it may be.

But you won’t love this...
Hip + happening. If serenity is what you seek, look elsewhere.

Will I like living here?...
It’s a smorgasbord of fun and a playground for the young. A classic barrio with a history of avant-garde creativity and cultural revolution.

Live music, art, and fashion. Eat from the past, present, and future in contemporary restaurants and classic Spanishtabernas. Get your sustenance bite-sized (tapa) with your beer. There’s hardly time for 3 courses.

And if you’re bored...
Microteatro por dinero: A unique theatre experience. Sit so close you’re practically part of the play. Google rating: 4.5/5 And this Google review nails it: “Absolutely original experience like never before. The 15-min plays happen in 15m² rooms where you all but touch knees with the actors”.

Anything else?
A Malasaña movement. La Movida Madrileña was the city’s post Franco socio-cultural liberation, and things got wild. The Republica Independiente de Malasaña (as it was dubbed) became the epicentre of a hedonistic cultural explosión. Today it’s perhaps more hipster than revolutionary, but the spirit still simmers.

And did you know?…
Legend has it... Tapas was invented so that peasants who couldn’t afford to both eat and drink were still getting some sustenance. Today the tradition serves to keep poor students well fed, those who otherwise couldn’t afford to eat and get wrecked in discos across Madrid.

Move here to be near:
* Everything * Mercado de San Ildefonso * Centro Conde Duque * Malasaña

Getting to and from the airport...
You can take a taxi from Madrid Barajas International Airport. It will cost you roughly €30 and 25 minutes.
