Benicalap
Your Ciutat Fallera home, the place where magic is made
Overview
Benicalap is a quiet neighbourhood subdivided into 2 smaller areas, Benicalap and Ciutat Fallera.
In the curious workshops of Ciutat Fallera, artisans painstakingly create their ninotsculptures. It takes them all year. In March, at the Fallas festival, their creations will be spectacularly burnt.
In Benicalap, Valencian traditions hide in every corner.
Come find them.
What can I do here?
Go to Parque de Benicalap and cool off in the pool. It's a fun place, whatever your age. You can get in for just €3.25.
Go explore Ciutat Fallera. It's is a quiet place full of warehouses. Look for the workshops with an 'artesano' sign. Be polite, and the artists might let you in to watch them build their latest Fallas statue.
The statues are big – up to 5 metres tall. The subject matter: caricatures of the rich and famous. The humour is saucy. Think Messi and Ronaldo sharing a hug. Now multiply the awkwardness by ten. You're getting there.
On Carrer de Vicent Cane, lives the Fallas museum. Come here to admire the rare works that escaped the flames.
Have fun picking your favourite bar. Culebras is a good choice. It's a friendly place.
To get to the city centre, you can walk or hop on a tram.
Fun fact
Valencia FC are building their stadium here. It should be ready in 2019.
