Fear not, because despite not being in the centre, Tiburtina is one of Rome's best-connected areas. You can get there in just a few minutes on the Metro.
Affordable 1950s high-rise buildings. Streets that become pedestrian-only on Friday and Saturday nights. Eclectic bars and varied restaurants.

What can I do here?
Tiburtina has a bit of everything.
To the north, it becomes more and more residential. And then you find yourself in the Aniene Valley Nature Reserve. Nice.
Along Via Tiburtina you can find food, drink, clothing, and more. It's truly cosmopolitan.
Got a spare fiver? Join the Monk Club. €5 gets you a year's membership. They have an open-air bar, food, live music, and events. Day or night, there's something to do here. (Even if it's simply relaxing on a deckchair with a Mojito.)
Tiburtina is a prime location for 'urban renewal', so may soon lose some of its distinctive character. But until that happens, enjoy the local vibe.
