Monte Sacro
Your peaceful, residential home

Overview
Residential Rome – sometimes it's the best place to be.

Take Monte Sacro. It has both high-rise buildings and pretty little villas. A good mix.

It's also the perfect mix of busy and relaxing. With parks, shops, cafés, and restaurants, you have everything you need right here.

Need a quiet home in Rome? Try Monte Sacro.

What can I do here?
Take it easy.

Go for a wander.

Find bargains in the food markets. If they're popular with the locals, you know they're good.

There are lots of pretty parks. This is the perfect place to bring your children.

In Valle dell'Aniene you can find CSA La Torre. It's a social collective. They occupied a derelict building in 1994 to create a communal space.

Despite evictions, arson, and forced removal by riot police, the community endures. (Albeit in a different location.)

You can join community workshops; help out in an organic vegetable garden.

They organize regular events, from first aid courses to farmer's markets.

They have computer labs and anti-fascist historical research groups. There's also a cooperative restaurant which serves tasty meals straight from the garden.

You're probably asking the same question we are: what did the police find so threatening?

Fascinating fact
Monte Sacro means 'Sacred Mountain' in English. But how did this neighbourhood earn its holy, hilly name?

The answer lies in Ancient Rome. Augurs came here to study the flight path of birds. Haruspices worked here too. They performed divination by inspecting the entrails of sacrificed animals. Yuck.
