Portello / QT8
An up-and-coming green space in the big city
Overview
In Portello / QT8, you can enjoy a breath of fresh air in urban Milan.
Portello was once the industrial headquarters of Alfa Romeo. Now, that same spot hosts the beautiful Parco Portello.
QT8 was conceived during the postwar reconstruction of Milan. It was an experiment in a new type of neighbourhood, after the suffering of WWII. Architects wanted the new QT8 to be an example of a green and community-orientated district.
The 2 districts come together to create one of the most progressively designed and greenest areas in Milan!
What can I do here?
Parco Portello is a must-visit! It has three hills which all provide different views. Their design represents the past, present, and future. And the lake even turns into an ice rink in the winter!
This area is perfect for people who want both city life and country living. It’s filled with parks and playgrounds. Ideal for families, pet-lovers, and exercise fanatics!
Tired of nature? Head over to Piazza Portello. It’s a huge shopping centre - almost like a small city! It has hypermarkets, clothing stores, and luxury arcades. It’s also filled with trendy bars and restaurants.
However, our recommendation is a restaurant at the opposite end of the neighbourhood - Ristorante Ribot. It’s incredible for steak lovers and meat eaters.
Rubble fact
In Monte Stella, a hill in the park of the same name is quite unique. This large hill was built from the debris of Milanese buildings destroyed during WWII! From the top you can get a great view of the city.
How affordable is this neighbourhood?
