Bovisa
Milan’s artsy side
Overview
Let’s face it. Bovisa is cool. Graffiti + university + museums = cool.
But it wasn’t always so trendy.
Long ago, it was an agricultural town with farms and factories.
Today, those very same factories are galleries in a rugged, concrete jungle. The result is a unique place with a lot of personality.
Bovisa is also home to 2 Politecnico di Milano campuses. One for engineering, the other for design. That means busy streets and youthful vibes. A perfect match for the landscape.
See? Told you it was cool.
What can I do here?
Street art is a major part of Bovisa life. You’ll find a lot more than your average graffiti here.
If you want to do some urban exploring, search for the “Panettoni”. They’re roadblocks that have been painted by a street artist named Pao. Some of them have been designed like penguins. Keep a look out!
And away from the art world, enjoy the sunny weekends by reading your favourite novel in the beautiful Parco Franco Verga.
Bored of pizza? Sushi Ran is the place to go. You’ll want to come back for more fresh fish, that’s a promise. Beautiful.
Need a change of pace? A quick metro, tram, or bus ride will have you in the centre of Milan in minutes.
Fun fact
Bovisa gets its name from the word Bovine - a group of animals including bulls, cows and oxen. The general agreement is that Bovisa was a “Cow Town” during agricultural times!
