Baggio
When Milan adopted a sleepy child
Overview
Welcome to Baggio, where peace and quiet is the order of the day.
Baggio became a part of Milan in the 1920s, a farming village bolted onto Italy’s most powerful city.
But Baggio isn’t just an ‘extra’. The district has a relaxed and cultured vibe, welcoming the historians and bookworms who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Milan.
Don’t expect neon lights, Baggio prefers early nights.
What can I do here?
Baggio is about searching, not shopping.
Architecture is the name of the game. The church of San Giovanni Bosco lies in wait.
Sant’Apollinare has Europe’s largest clock tower. At least go there to check the time.
Cascina Linterno is one of Italy’s national monuments, so don’t miss your chance. It was the home of Franceso Petrarca, the guy who pretty much started the renaissance in the 14th Century. Pioneer.
But don’t be put off. Baggio isn’t just about the past. The present is good, too!
Baggio’s main street is Via delle Forze Armate, where you’ll get your fix of food and drink.
We recommend Osteria Alla Grande. It’s run by a husband and wife team. She cooks. He serves. They pride themselves on rare ingredients and very low prices. The lunch menu is only €9.
Hire some bikes and go to the stunning Parco della Cave. Take the bike trails and feel the breeze in your hair. You won’t regret it.
And if you really want to let your down, grab your swimming suit and head to the awesome Acquatica Park. Nobody is stressed when they’re on a waterslide.
See, Baggio isn’t that quiet.
