For a genuine East-End experience, head to The Palm Tree. It’s an old-fashioned boozer full of local characters. Time stands still here. You’ll love that in fast-paced London.

Right around the corner, on your way back from Mile End, is the Britannia Fish Shop. It might not look like much, but they’ll serve you the best fresh crispy cod n’ chips.

Strike fact
The matchgirls strike in 1988 is a famous action to better the working conditions for women employed at the Bryant and May Factory on Fairfield Road.
The strike led to an improved life for the factory workers and was an important step towards creating the Suffragette movement.
