Overview
You want...

Lazy afternoons in large parks and relaxed pints in genuine pubs...

An eclectic mix of fast food and excellent transport connections (that can’t be good for the stomach)...

To live near a top university...

And some of the super-flaming-hottest areas in London...

You want all of this. And you want it to be affordable too.

You don’t want much do you. But you got lucky this time. You came to the right place.

What can I do here?
Make a bright choice for your future...

Queen Mary University of London is in the heart of neighboring Mile End.

It’s good too – ranked 9th best for research (among UK multi-faculty universities). You’ll make friends with people from all over the world.

Stop for a relaxing pint...

Lucky you, says we. Because this area is home to a number of friendly pubs. We recommend the Victoria on Grove Road for great cask ales and a good atmosphere.

For a genuine East-End experience, head to The Palm Tree. It’s an old-fashioned boozer full of local characters. Time stands still here. You’ll love that in fast-paced London.

Pick up something tasty on the way home...

Right around the corner, on your way back from Mile End, is the Britannia Fish Shop. It might not look like much, but they’ll serve you the best fresh crispy cod n’ chips.

In the mood for something a little less cockney?...

Orange Room Café serves tasty Lebanese dishes at an affordable price. You can sit in their bright and friendly restaurant or order to take away.

Chill out and relax in the open...

You are right around the corner from both Mile End Park and Victoria Park.

The first is excellent for a lazy kick-about with some friends.

The second is bigger and hosts popular summer festivals (check out All Points East). It also has 3 ponds, a playground for the younger ones, and a cafe.

Strike fact
The matchgirls strike in 1988 is a famous action to better the working conditions for women employed at the Bryant and May Factory on Fairfield Road.

The strike led to an improved life for the factory workers and was an important step towards creating the Suffragette movement.
