Bairro Alto, Bica, and Cais do Sodré
Because I like the night.
You’ll love this...
Every night is “street party” night. Go to the top of the hill at around midnight – the bar crowds spill onto the streets and it’s just great.
But you won’t love this...
Ok, who told all the tourists?! Barrio Alto can get a little sloppy when the sun goes down, but in Cais Do Sodre you’ll find that plenty of the old bohemian/ artistic spirit still remains.
Will I like living here?...
It’s central, lively, perfectly Portuguese and impossibly charming. Fado and Jazz, pork sandwiches (bifana), friendly locals; you’ll love it.
Sample local delicacies at the sprawling Mercado Da Ribeira in Cais Do Sodre; ride Lisbon’s iconic funicular, the Elevador Da Bica, and party all night. We promise you’ll find something to love around here.
And if you’re bored...
BA Wine Bar: Informative and friendly service, delicious treats, and a tour of Portugal’s finest wines.
Google rating: 4.6/5
And this Google review nails it: “Da bomb of wine bars in Lisboa.”- Only the finest of wine bars are considered “Da Bomb”.
Anything else?
This is a popular central spot, but affordable apartments are on offer. Just make sure your affordable studio isn’t right above Barrio Alto’s best late night Fado club.
And did you know?…
Gourmet in a can... The Portuguese do canned better than anyone. Check out Loja das Conservas for your canned fish needs.
Getting to and from the airport...
You can take a taxi from Lisbon Airport. It will cost you roughly €20 and takes about 25 minutes.
