Steglitz
Because we’re halfway to the Wannsee.
You’ll love this...
Weekends by the lakes in Wannsee. Do as the locals do.
Will I like living here?...
It’s an eclectic corner of Berlin’s suburbia. A curious mix of contemporary, classic, and avant-garde (see the famous Bierpinsel).
While Berlin’s trendy inner-city spots are always on the move, Steglitz prefers to mosey along, laid-back and unpretentious. It’s still Berlin though, and friendly spots like Clandestine serve a mean cocktail.
Serenity is not hard to find. Steglitz park, the botanical gardens, and the wonderful Natur-Park Südgelände are all in your backyard.
You’re also nicely placed for a summertime weekender to Schlachtensee lake. Bring your bathers and a beer, and join the locals lakeside.
Hungry? You can get one of the best Vietnamese Phos in Berlin at Bao.
And if you’re bored...
Schlosspark Theatre: Opened in 1921, it’s a classic and offers a wide variety of productions.
Google rating: 4.5/5
And this Google review nails it:
“I don't know the first thing about plays, but I do know it triggered a discussion that went on for the following 2 days.”
Anything else?
Student looking for a bargain? You’ll find one here. Ideal for students of the Freie Universität Berlin too.
And did you know?…
Just south of the Botanical Gardens you’ll find Lichterfelde-West. It’s a colony of villas built in the 19th century and the oldest residential district in Berlin. It’s a lovely spot for a stroll in Spring and has a sleepy, village like feel.
