Schöneberg
Because I want a bit of Bowie’s Berlin.

You’ll love this...
It’s a chilled out spot. Leafy and laid back, but still with a few hits.

Will I like living here?...
You may have heard David Bowie lived here (Hauptstrasse 155 if you’re interested).

He chose the area because of its “bleak, anonymous and culturally lost vibe.” Here are some better reasons to make Schöneberg home:

There are plenty of charming, low-key bars, and a good cocktail isn’t hard to find. Try Green Door or Stagger Lee. It’s also one of the LGBT-friendliest spots in town and hosts a bangin’ festival.

It’s also a fine place to dine. Ethiopian? India? Greek? Pork knuckle and sauerkraut? Schöneberg rivals its more famous neighbours for culinary diversity.

Something for nature lovers:

Natur-Park Südgelände is an old train yard that has been reclaimed by nature. It’s a wonderful place to explore and take pics.

Bleak, Bowie? Not anymore.

And if you’re bored...
Winterfeldt Schokoladen: If you’re bored, find the nearest pharmacy. The chocolate pharmacy that is. Prescription: The best hot chocolate in the world. Google rating: 4.6/5 And this Google review nails it: “Exquisite chocolate in a lovely old converted pharmacy. Delish!”

Anything else?
Hunting for a bargain? At Rathaus Schöneberg flea market you’ll find one. Incidentally, this is where Kennedy gave his famous “Ich bin ein Berliner!” speech.

And did you know?…
Not only did David Bowie live here back in the day, but he also shared a Schöneberg-apartment with another of the coolest rock-stars to ever live: Iggy Pop.

The two lived together on Hauptstrasse 155. Today it’s a museum. Why not check it out?

Getting to and from the airport...
You can take a taxi from Tegel International Airport. It will cost you €30 and 20 minutes.
