Prenzlauer Berg
Because I seek a laid-back Berlin beauty.
You’ll love this...
Beautiful, central, and a favourite among young professionals and families.
Will I like living here?...
Sure.
Laid-back, pretty to look at, plenty of fun… It’s the perfect sunny summer afternoon stroll-spot.
You’ll see plenty of beautiful pre-war architecture. (Prenzlauer was largely spared bombardment during WWII.)
You’ll also see beer gardens, rooftop beach bars, sexy speakeasies and boutique breweries.
Our advice? Head to Kollwitzstraße for your Saturday-morning coffee. Then shuffle through a lovely street market (Ökomarkt) in Kollwitzplatz square. Kick your evening off at the northern end of Kastanienallee.
When the sun’s shining, it’s got to be Mauerpark. Get your BBQ on or sing your little heart out at the famous Bearpit Karaoke.
And if you’re bored...
Prater Beer Garden: If you’re bored in Berlin, get yourself checked. Then head to Prater, one of the oldest beer gardens in Berlin (est. 1837).

And this Google review nails it:
“You know a place is good when you have a solid mix of hipster 30-somethings, elderly people, goth 40-somethings, and toddlers, all enjoying themselves while getting a sweet buzz.” – But do they sell salt-and-vinegar crisps?
Anything else?
The lovely old buildings make for some beautifully restored apartments. Proximity to Humboldt University (and Mitte) make the rooms for rent popular with students.
And did you know?…
On the 30th of April, Berliner’s celebrate Walpurgis Night in Mauer Park. According to German Folklore, it’s the night when witches fly to Mount Brocken. Apparently dancing around bonfires helps to ward them off. Witches hate fire. Don’t you know.
Move here to be near:
* Mauerpark
* Bötzow Brauerei
* Humboldt University of Berlin
* Kulturbrauerei
Getting to and from the airport...
You can take a taxi from Tegel International Airport. It will cost you €35 and 30 minutes.
