Kreuzberg
Because I’m an urban, trendy, kebab-loving revolutionary.
You’ll love this...
It’s the Berlin neighborhood.
Think you’re cool enough to keep up? If not there’s always Schöneberg, where things are more laid back.
Will I like living here?...
We think so.
When Jack Lang said, “Paris is always Paris and Berlin is never Berlin!” he must have been thinking of Kreuzberg.
It’s multi-cultural and multi-faceted. Sexy and artistic. Hip and historical. It’s diverse, fast-moving, and breaks down something like this:
North west: Museums and iconic spots like Checkpoint Charlie.
South: Leafy streets, cute cafes, and boutique shops. (Have you heard of 3rd wave coffee? Single origin beans, on-site roasteries, pour-overs and clean cups.)
East: Berlin’s elusive countercultural spirit. It’s all happening around Kottbusser Tor. Party in legendary nightclubs like SO36.
And if you’re bored...
Street Food Thursdays: Pretty much what it says on the box. Markthalle Neun is the spot to take a world tour of cuisine.
Google rating: 4.5/5
And this Google review nails it:
“I had the BBQ here and died! It was too good. I’d certainly come back. – From the dead?

Snackbar 36 serves the best Currywurst in Berlin. But what is Currywurst? Only the perfect mix of German pork sausage, curry from the east and … ketchup from the west.
And then there’s Kebab. Doner Kebab. It was invented here by Turkish immigrant Mehmet Aygun in the early ‘70s. The original location is still on Oranienstraße.
Anything else?
Even the tourist traps are cool in Kreuzberg.
Head to Checkpoint Charlie. It’s the most famous of the old border crossings between East and West.
Today it has a good museum, restored military buildings, and the option for you to get a fake stamp in your passport (not at all tacky).
Futuristic frugality fact As of 2013 Kreuzberg was the area in the world with the highest number of businesses accepting Bitcoin. Hmm, wonder how that’s working out.
