How to: Learn a new language in Dublin
Learning a new language isn’t easy. Heck, it isn’t always simple even after you have the basics down! Sometimes, you need an extra hand. Some guidance. A plan of action. Something to show you the way forward.
But where should you start?
If you’ve set your sights on learning a new tongue, or just want to improve your current language abilities, here are a few ideas for you to get a jump start on your language studies in Dublin!
1. Find a great language school
First and foremost, we have to talk about the most obvious course of action: you should get yourself enrolled in an amazing language school.
Ok. Fine. But where should you start? Just the prospect of looking for the right school can feel like a daunting start to your language odyssey.
The good news? Dublin is full of incredible language academies.
If you aren’t a native English speaker and need to improve your English, try ULearn English School Dublin, Arena School of English, or Delfin English School Dublin-- all are some of the most popular English academies in the city.
Already have your bearings on English? Try your luck at the Atlas Language School, where you can study Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Japanese, or French. Or, if moving abroad to teach English is your goal, take one of the school’s TEFL or teacher training courses.
Even better? They offer a variety of English courses as well. So bring your international friends with you!
2. Language exchanges

Can’t stand stuffy classrooms and those dreadful, weird language activity books? Try a language exchange.
The benefits here are obvious: hang out with a native speaker of your target language, and learn about both the language and culture from a firsthand, friendly source.
In fact, the city of Dublin even hosts free language exchanges in a variety of tongues in public libraries.
You can’t get that from any textbook!
3. Evening courses at Trinity College

Fortunately, Trinity College offers an excellent selection of non-degree evening language classes.
With courses in Russian, Bulgarian, Portuguese, Croatian, Dutch, Polish, and Czech, you’re bound to find a language that’s new and interesting to try.
4. Free English classes
Short on cash but need to improve your English fast? Look no further than SWAN.
Offering classes in the afternoons and evening on Tuesdays and Thursdays, SWAN provides quality English classes completely free of charge.
Just be sure to stop by as soon as you can in the mornings to get a ticket-- spots in the classes are limited, and you need to have a ticket to join!
And there you have it. It’s the new, multilingual you!
Try out any one of these options-- or even 2 or 3 of them-- and you’ll be well on your way to language perfection. Just try to actually learn something while you’re out having so much fun around Dublin!
